Who We Are

About Us!

'Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Emmanuel.'    Isaiah 7:14

What's In A Name?

Emmanuel Church is an Anglican, bible-based and Christ-centred community church in the heart of Morecambe. Located about 12 minutes drive from Lancaster, our church looks out over Morecambe Bay across to the Lakes District.

The word 'Emmanuel' comes from עִמָּנוּאֵל an ancient Hebrew name for Jesus, in English, it translates to "God with us" a recognition that in Christ, the invisible God became human in order to save humanity - it also reflects the wonderful truth that Jesus is always present with his disciples, to love and care for us.

Emmanuel Church was founded in 1886. We are a reformed and Protestant Anglican church that fully upholds faith in the Triune God as revealed in the Bible as the inerrant and infallible word. Our doctrines are thoroughly Anglican derived from the Book of Common Prayer, FCE Declaration of Principals and 39 Articles of Religion. Other denominations have changed over time, drifting away from their foundations but we have remained true to traditional Christian orthodoxy in the Anglican way.

In modern times, Emmanuel was re-launched in 2023 as a passionately gospel-focused, loving church family that seeks to reach all of Morecambe and the North West with the wonderful love of God in Jesus.

Everyone is welcome at Emmanuel, all ages from babies to seniors, from all walks of life and people of all faiths or none are invited to visit with us for any of our worship services or events. Jesus Christ is at the heart of our church community, we are truly a family of Christian believers. We yearn for all of Morecambe (and beyond!) to know and love Jesus as we do. Because we are a family of disciples, we strive to love each other as Christ first loved us, to reach out with the good news of salvation and to share God's love with everyone around us.

We firmly believe that God desires to add more and more people to our church family; salvation is open to all people and we aim to reveal God's love through everything we say and do.

Please come along and experience the love, joy, forgiveness and hope God has for you.

Emmanuel Church stands firm on the Bible and has not compromised with the world or the devil. As our culture continues to go mad with woke ideology and other churches abandon the Word of God, we are holding the line in the power of the Holy Spirit. As an Anglican congregation, we are NOT affiliated in any way with the apostate Church of England.

As an orthodox bible focused church, our faith is built upon a saving relationship with Jesus Christ as revealed in God's infallible Word the Bible. As Christians we submit to the Scripture as the source of our morality and theology; the bible teaches that to be spared from the hellish consequences of our sins (evil thoughts, words, and actions) we must be saved by God's grace alone, through faith in Christ alone.
As Anglicans, we uphold the three historic Creeds of the ancient church (Apostles, Nicene and St. Athanasian creeds) and the doctrines of the Book of Common Prayer, particularly the 39 Articles of Religion, the FCE Declaration of Principles and we fully uphold the GAFCON Jerusalem Declaration. To be authentically Anglican is to embrace the way of Christian spirituality going back to the early Celtic church of the British Isles, whilst rejoicing in the rich theological heritage of the English Reformation.

Because of our biblical convictions, our church believes that marriage is a God-given union between one man and one woman for life and all other sexual unions outside of heterosexual monogamous marriage are sinful. We also hold that only men can be ordained as clergy and we are strongly pro-life believing that all life is sacred from the moment of conception until natural death. Our church stands with Israel and the Jewish people as the First Covenant people of God and we yearn for the day that the Jews come to embrace Jesus Christ as their long-awaited Messiah. Many of our members are also part of Christian Friends of Israel and the Society for the Distribution of the Hebrew Scriptures.

Emmanuel was founded as a church of the Free Church Of England and we uphold the principles and practices of the FCE. In short, we respect the Declaration of Principles, 39 Articles of Religion, use of the Book of Common Prayer for our worship and adhere to its doctrines.

Our Minister is a member of GAFCON which means we're connected with thousands of other orthodox Christians around the UK and the world (75% of global Anglicans are biblically sound) who share the same goal of sharing the good news and hope we have in Jesus Christ.

At Emmanuel we adhere to and recognise Episcopacy according to the FCE Declaration of Principles and our Minister comes under the Episcopal Oversight of Bishop Belmonte in the Anglican Church Traditional.
